Department of English began its journey in 1948, the year that College was established. Currently, the Department runs both B.A. (Hons) and M.A. course in English under the North Bengal University. The Department has a well-equipped seminar library to support the academic requirements of the students. The Department imparts instruction to its Undergraduate and Postgraduate students as per well- defined curriculum planning and delineated Programme and Course outcomes. The Department boasts of students who have excelled in academics and are currently posted as teachers in Universities, Colleges and Schools. Excellent scholars - Dr. Niranjan Goswami, Dr. Ershad Ahmed and famous writer – Parimal Bhattacharya have enriched the Department as teachers of the Department in the past. The Department actively uses ICT to enrich the learning experience of the students at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. The Department maintains a rich depository of digital material in a dedicated device that can be freely accessed by the students of the Department. At present the Department has one Associate professor, four Assistant Professors and two SACT who are dedicated to the academic welfare of the students of the Department. The teachers of the Department continuously counsel the students regarding career opportunities and other resources of enrichment in studies as well as life in general. The greatest asset of the Department is its obedient, well-behaved and disciplined students always motivated to acquire knowledge and excel in studies and life.
